CHAFFEE—With gates opened at 4 p.m. on Friday for the 2018 Chaffee-Sardinia Fire Co. Carnival, the annual festival fundraiser took place June 29 – July 1. This year’s carnival celebrated the fire department’s 70 year anniversary.
As the department celebrated the milestone, a special event was added to the schedule. On Sunday, during a Gene Hilts & The Rustic Ramblers concert, a birthday cake was available for visitors marking the 70 years of service by the volunteer company.
Many locals make it a tradition to attend the carnival each year. Favorite events like the parade, garden tractor pull, craft show, ride matinees and vendors were once again included in this year’s event.
In addition to the traditional carnival events, the Erie County Sheriff’s Office K-9 Unit hosted demonstrations for the public on Saturday, June 30. There was also a car show on Sunday.
With weather forecasts predicting temperatures in the 90s, the CSFD prepared for the heat in order to keep guests safe. While they encouraged attendees to drink plenty of water before and during attending the carnival, extra precautions to keep visitors safe were taken. The CSFD added a few cooling stations throughout the grounds.
