B. Lynn “Bud” Williams

B. Lynn “Bud” Williams, 87, passed away Aug. 1, 2018 at The Pines in Machias.


Bud was born May 5, 1931 in West Valley to the late Hayden and Margaret Ulmer Williams. He married Mary Lou Springborn on Jan. 20, 1952.

Bud was a dairy farmer for over 30 years, and in his retirement worked at Cheap Chollies.

A lifelong resident of West Valley, Bud served as the Town of Ashford Supervisor for 14 years, the town historian and president of the Ashford Historical Society. He was very civic-minded, serving on the West Valley Central School Board of Education and headed the West Valley Food Pantry for 30 years, alongside Mary Lou.

He had a wonderful sense of humor, and enjoyed telling and hearing great stories.

Bud was predeceased by his son, Dennis, who passed away in 1974, a sister Janice Osborne, who passed away in 2017 and a brother-in-law Clayton Osborne, who passed away in 2018.

In addition to Mary Lou, Bud is survived by his children Deborah (David) Battistoni of Cuba and Lynda (George) Schwob of Jamestown; five grandchildren, Gina (Brian) Fries, Joel Battistoni, Jared (Mallory) Battistoni, Eric (Tiffany) Schwob and Rhonda (Jeremy Nuhfer) Schwob and five great-grandchildren Carter and Madeline Fries, Lucas Battistoni, Cecilia Battistoni and Seamus Nuhfer.

Bud donated his body to the University of Buffalo. At his request, there was no funeral service. Memorials in Bud’s name can be made to Camp Good Days and Special Times or the Ashford Historical Society.
