Charles C. Vredenburg Sr.

Charles C. Vredenburg Sr., 96, of Springville, passed away November 6, 2017 at Hospice in Cheektowaga. He was born in Rome, N.Y. on April 25, 1921 to the late Charles H. and Kathryn (nee Spyr) Vredenburg. He married Clara Crandall on Jan. 22, 1985.

Charles worked as a postmaster for the U.S. Post Office in Baldwinsville. He was a member of the First United Methodist Church in Springville and was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in the European Theatre in WWII in the 14th Armored Division. Charles was awarded the Bronze Star and was a member of the Springville VFW Post 5260, American Legion Post 431, a 70-year member of the Masonic Order and a member of the Shriners.

In addition to his parents, Charles was preceded in death by his first wife Clarice (nee Ferguson) Vredenburg, who passed away in 1983, and a sister Dianne Vredenburg.

Charles is survived by his wife; children Charles “Bud” (Nancy) Jr. Vredenburg of Springville, Gerald (Linda) Vredenburg of Lafayette, Yvonne “Vonnie” Vredenburg of Springville, Jeanne (Ken) Hutton of Kennett Square, Pa.; a sister Lois Reynolds of Deltona, Fla.; nine grandchildren, 17 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Friends may call Monday, Nov. 13, from 10-11 a.m., at the First United Methodist Church in Springville, where a funeral service will follow at 11 a.m.
