Jean Heinz-Garlock

Jean Heinz, 91, of Springville, passed away March 30, 2018, peacefully at home after a long battle with cancer.


She was born in Ridgway, Pa. to Assunta “Sue” and Louie Liberatori. Jean was a graduate of Ridgway High School, later attending nursing school in Buffalo, she completed her education in cosmetology school. It was at this time she met and later married Ralph “Bud” Heinz, Jr. in 1947.

Settling in Springville, they had three children, Dennis in 1948, Steve in 1950 and Lawna in 1960, who died as an infant in 1962.

Jean may be best known for her work as a beautician in her Newman Street home, where she had her business for over 20 years.

After Bud’s passing in 1991, she later married a lifelong friend, Bill Garlock in 2006. They lived in Venice, Fla., until Bill’s death in 2009.

Jean was an active communicant at St. Aloysius Church in Springville, a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a Gold Star Mom (Dennis KIA, Vietnam, 1970).

She was well known in the community because of her great involvement in many groups and enjoyed a wide circle of friends.

She is survived by her son, Steve and his wife Janice (MacHose) who gave her four grandchildren, Jessica Daniel, Amanda Heinz, Joshua and Jacob Heinz. Also three great-grandchildren Tucker, Amelia and Matthew.

Since Jean had her body donated to the UB Anatomical Gift Center, no formal services will be held. Instead, there will be a Celebration of Life open house held in her honor at The Legacy Restaurant on Friday, May 18, 2018 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. This will be preceded by a mass at St. Aloysius Church at 9 a.m.

In lieu of cards or flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made in her name to Hospice of Buffalo, 225 Como Park Blvd., Cheektowaga, NY 14227-1480.
