Lewis E. Markle Jr., 93, of East Concord, passed away February 21, 2018 at the Jennie B. Richmond Nursing Home in Springville.
Lewis was born in Wilkinsburg, Pa. on Oct. 20, 1924 to the late Lewis E. and Marian (nee Dumm) Markle. He was a United States World War II Navy veteran, having served from July 1, 1943 to April 21, 1946. He also graduated from Penn State University with a bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering. He married Mary Ellen “Judy” Shepfer on Dec. 11, 1948 in Pennsylvania.
Lewis founded and ran the Lewis E. Markle Co. Inc., acting as a manufacturer’s representative in the electrical business.
Lewis was an avid Penn State football fan and enjoyed fly fishing. He was a great supporter for the American veterans and was a friend to everyone. He also enjoyed organic gardening with his wife. Most importantly, he was a devoted husband, father and grandfather.
Lewis is survived by his wife; his sons Lewis E. (Rita) Markle III of South Wales, David R. (Christine) Markle of Berwyn, Pa. and William H. Markle of Mission Viejo, Calif.; six grandchildren and two nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date. He will be laid to rest at the Cedar Hill Cemetery in Mill Hall, Pa.
