Lorna J. Block

Lorna J. Block, of Springville, passed away March 31, 2017 at Bertrand Chaffee Hospital in Springville.

Lorna was born in Machias to the late S.J. and Lura Mae (nee Williams) Lingenfelter.

She was a school bus driver for 36 years for the Springville-Griffith Institute School District. During her years there, Lorna received 20 jackets from S-GI as a result of perfect attendance and no accidents each year. Also, while being a school bus driver, she worked weekends at Fiddler’s Green as a nurse’s aide.

Lorna’s first job was at Bush Industries in Salamanca, followed by Robinson Knife Company in Springville and then the glove factory on North Street in Springville.

Lorna enjoyed going to restaurants, and as a result, she had eaten at every restaurant from Olean to North Boston. She enjoyed country music, working in her gardens at home and mowing the lawn. Lorna loved flowers, and had fresh cut flower bouquets in the house every day, no matter what time of the year it was.

She had always wanted to drive a tractor-trailer, but unfortunately never got to do it.

In addition to her parents, Lorna was preceded in death by her siblings Corrine (Ed) Comisarek, Thelma (Wilbur) Fuller, John (Joyce) Lingenfelter and Ronald (Barb) Lingenfelter; and a brother-in-law Miner Everts.

Lorna is survived by her son Dennis Block of Springville; sisters Maisie Everts of Springville, Grace (Robert) Rosier of Sardinia, Lura Hoch of Springville; several nieces and nephews and two special personal aides, Sandy and Amy.

Funeral services were held from the W.S. Davis Funeral Home, 358 Main St., Arcade. The Rev. Shawn Hannon officiated. Burial was in Fairview Cemetery, Springville.
