Loyd Edwin Rumfola, 94, of Springville, passed away at his home on May 16, 2018.
Loyd was born in Springville on Dec. 15, 1923 to the late Joseph Lloyd and Alma (nee Erdmann) Rumfola. He was married to Stella Rudnicki Rumfola for more than 70 years. She passed away in 2015.
Loyd was a farmer and carried on the tradition of his parents and grandparents before him, despite once being offered to try out for the role of Tarzan in Hollywood by his friend Jack Yellen. Loyd enjoyed training harness racing horses, raising livestock, repairing equipment and working the family land on Vaughn Street, old Route 219, Pratham Road and at Liberty Corners. Though largely retired for the past 20 years, he still acted as overseer of his farm and used his lawn tractor to compensate for his limited mobility in later life. He was fortunate to be healthy enough to prepare his land for planting vegetables right up to the current 2018 season. He enjoyed visiting with friends and family on his front porch and was able to do so until his last day.
In addition to his parents and wife, Lody was preceded in death by a sister and two brothers.
Loyd is survived by his three children Joseph L. (Kathleen) Rumfola II of East Concord, Cheryl Rumfola of Springville and Susan (Wilton) Cochran of Machias; six grandchildren Richard (Donna) Rumfola, Ellen (Jonathan) Krzemien, Joseph L. (Jennifer) Rumfola III, Derrick (Jennifer) Cochran, Tania Cochran and Brad (Jessica) Countryman; seven great-grandchildren Jessica (Luis) Rodriguez, Jordan Beatty, Charles Rumfola, Maria Rumfola, Natalie Rumfola, Cortnee Cochran and Abel Cochran; two great-great-grandchildren Milana and Luis Rodriguez; two sisters and numerous nieces and nephews.
A private memorial service will be held at the convenience of the family. Arrangements were made by the Smith-Weismantel Funeral Home, 271 E. Main St., Springville.
