Marlene Ann Spaulding-Luther, 78, of East Concord, passed away at her home May 5, 2018.
Marlene was born in Gowanda on Aug. 23, 1939 to the late Fred Max and Florence Ruth (nee Rogers) Ortel. She married Calvin Luther in 1995.
Marlene was a member of the Curriers Seventh Day Adventist Church and was president of the Alumni Association in Collins Center. She was also a member of the Springville and Sardinia Senior Citizens. She was a caregiver for many senior citizens and welcomed them into her home, where she was able to provide care for them on a personal and private basis for at least 25 years. Prior to her home care, she took in many foster children and welcomed them into her home as well.
Marlene had worked in the laundry department at the Gowanda State Hospital and was a beautician who worked out of her home in Collins Center and later in East Concord. She also cleaned various homes and office buildings in the area.
In addition to her parents, Marlene was preceded in death by her first husband Morris Spaulding.
Marlene is survived by her husband; daughter Ronda (Gerard) Boucher of Cumberland, R.I.; siblings Michael (Lynn) Ortel of Phoenix, Ariz., John (Heidi) Ortel of Walworth, Wis., Bill (Louise) Smith of Rockford, Ill., Don (Sheila) Smith of Berrien Springs, Mich. and Barbara (Forrest) Howe of Calimesa, Calif. and several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Thursday, May 10, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Smith-Weismantel Funeral Home, 271 E. Main St., Springville. A funeral service will be Friday, May 11 at 11 a.m. from the Curriers Seventh Adventist Day Church, 5709 Curriers Road, Arcade. Burial will be in Collins Center Cemetery.
