Martha K. Bray, 69, of Arcade, passed away August 19, 2018 at Wyoming County Hospital in Warsaw.
Martha was born in Cuba, N.Y. on Aug. 5, 1949 to the late Gilbert and Kathleen (nee Bogert) Witt. She married Gary Bray on Oct. 25, 1968 in Arcade.
Martha was a member of the Arcade Church of Christ, Congregational and was a Wyoming County 4-H leader for 46 years. She was a volunteer at the Wyoming County Fair, enjoyed tractor pulls and spending time with her grandchildren along with watching them at their sporting events.
Martha was the first female sheriff’s deputy in New York. She had worked for the Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department and the Arcade Police Department and was also a farmer.
ln addition to her parents, Martha was preceded in death by a brother Gilbert Jr.
Martha is survived by her husband; children James (Jennifer) Bray of Varysburg, Mark (Jen) Bray of Sardinia and David (Melonie) Bray of Arcade; grandchildren Pamela, Martin, Kane, Garrett, Colton, Lucas, Koalbi, Keagan and Kayla; great-grandchildren Brayden, Ava and Tyler; siblings John (Ruth) of Freedom, Alan of Arcade, Nancy of Castile and Keith of Canaseraga and several nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will take place Thursday, Aug 23 at 10 a.m. from the Arcade United Church of Christ, Congregational, 297 Main St., Arcade. Pastor Robert Dievendorf will officiate.
