Richard N. Scott

Richard N. Scott, 91, of West Valley, passed away March 25, 2017 in Mercy Hospital, Buffalo.

Richard was born in West Valley on July 7, 1925 to the late Conrad and Helen (nee Kruse) Scott. He married his first wife, Edna Kessler, on Nov. 10, 1950. She passed away Jan. 31, 2009. He married his second wife, Ruth (nee Reisdorf) Schumacher Scott on March 17, 2012.


Richard graduated from West Valley High School and served in the U.S. Navy from Nov. 1, 1943 to April 17, 1946. He owned and operated Scott’s Store in West Valley and also worked at the Ford Stamping Plant for 30 years. He was a member of the West Valley American Legion and enjoyed hunting, fishing and woodworking.

In addition to his parents and first wife, Richard was preceded in death by a brother, Kirk Scott.

Richard is survived by his wife, Ruth; children James (Lynn Fontanella) Scott of Natick, Mass., Mary (James) Babcock of Clarendon, Pa., Ronald (Lois) Scott of Medway, Mass.; Donna (Kenneth) Sibila of Rotanda West, Fla., Robert (Lori) Scott of Franklinville, Nancy (Kevin P.) Mincer of Bergen; seven grandchildren Heather Scott, Adam Scott, Sara Babcock, Kevin Babcock, Thomas Scott, Richard Scott and Thomas Mincer; three great-grandchildren Jayden and Austin Mincer and Hailey Scott; three step-grandchildren Jeremy (Ashley) Bialaszewski, Christian Bialaszewski, Lance (Misha) Oakes; nine step-great-grandchildren; Ruth’s family of six children, Sally (Michael) Fuller of West Valley, Douglas Schumacher of Jacksonville, Fla., Donald Schumacher of Orion, Mich., Sheila (Joseph) Noble of Hilton, Dale (Jackie) Schumacher of East Lyme, Conn. and Stacy Schumacher of East Amherst; seven grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

Friends may call Saturday, April 8, at the Smith-Weismantel Funeral Home, 271 E. Main St., Springville, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m., where a memorial service will follow at 1 p.m. Burial will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, West Valley. Expressions of sympathy may be made to the Bertrand Chaffee Hospital Foundation, 222 E.
