Letter to the Editor: Pageant of Bands thankful for community support

Editor:

The Pageant of Bands committee thanks all generous supporters of the 55th Annual Springville Pageant of Bands held in May. This year’s Pageant included jazz ensemble, concert band, color guard, percussion and parade competitions. The awards ceremony was held immediately after the parade in the sunshine-filled Pop Warner Field.

The Kiwanis Club has joined with the Springville-Griffith Institute over the past 55 years to help bring to Springville one of New York State’s longest running band pageants. Generous community support is an integral facet of the Pageant and has allowed it to continue for 55 years. Year after year, this Pageant continues to offer students the opportunity to visit our school and community and interact with students from other districts while listening to and enjoying each other’s musical talent. The combined efforts of the S-GI music department with Mr. Joe Gervase at the baton, the S-GI High School music students who help coordinate much of the event, service organizations such as Kiwanis and dedicated community sponsors all come together to allow this musical event to continue.

Our sincere appreciation goes out to this year’s trophy sponsors: Sheret Jewelers, McDonald's of Springville, Tim’s Auto, Tops Markets, Springville Animal Hospital, Springville Pediatrics, Ron Miller Amish Sheds and Furniture, Witter-Davis Furniture Company, Slippy's Collision, Wendel's Poultry Farm, Julie's Pizzeria and Restaurant, Springville Hardware and Homewear, Concord Land Realty, Carpet World of Springville, Main Street Pizza, Scott G. Nachbar - DVM, The Joylan Theatre, Springville Eye Care and Metro Kirsch Real Estate. We thank these sponsors for their generosity.

The following area organizations, businesses and individuals also provided support: Emerling Dealerships and Slippy's Collision provided the vehicles for the parade judging platform. Ms. Suzanne Manchester, Kyle Manchester and Lowell Rothenberger of Corvettes of Buffalo helped provide the beautiful cars used for transporting pageant dignitaries and the band queens during the parade. We appreciate all the drivers who volunteer their time and vehicles for this event. Flowers for the band queens were donated by S&N/Eileen’s. The S&S Sign Shop provided the vinyl signs for each of the queen’s cars. The Springville police and fire departments provided support during the entire event.

Supported by the G.I. Music Department, the Kiwanis Club of Springville and a broad base of community sponsors, the Springville Pageant of Bands continues as a fine musical tradition of our community. Visit our “Springville Pageant of Bands” Facebook page during the year, and plan to visit us again next year in May 2018 for the 56th annual pageant!
