DUNKIRK—Seventeen teams competed at the Dunkirk Invitational with a pair of Springville runners highlighting the team’s success.
With the girls track team at Penn Relays in Philadelphia, Pa., only Elle Russell traveled with the boys to compete at Dunkirk, making the best of it with a third-place finish in the 3,000 meters with an 11:14 time.
Nick Abdo also had a third-place finish with three teammates in the 4x100 relay, but in individual competition took home a pair of fourth-place finishes in the 100 with an 11.66 time, and the 400 with a 51.8 time.
Abdo teamed with Seth Dash, Jared Reese and Masin Field for a 46.9 time in the 4x100 boys relay.
Eight personal records were set by members of the boys team with Austin Yetter achieving two of the eight. Yetter had a personal best in the 3,000 steeplechase with a time of 11:54.65, and also a personal record in the 3,200 with an 11:30 time.
Also setting a career best in the 3,200 was Casey Waterman with an 11:51 time. Harley Maloy ran a 2:51 in the 800, and Brett Russell a 4:56 in the 1,600 for personal bests for that pair, while Dash posted a 26.59 personal best in the 200 meter dash.
Alex Francisco had a throw of 96-feet-1 in the discus for his career high, while Reese rounded out the personal bests with a 17.4 time in the 110 hurdles.
Although not a personal best, Field had a season-best in the long jump with a leap of 17-feet-8.5. Other notable performances included: Field in the 100 with a 12.15 time, Dash in the 400 with a time of 58.67 and Nolan Longbine in the 110 hurdles with a time of 21.21.
The Griffin runners next travel to Depew High School May 9 for a 5 p.m. start.
