The Springville-Griffith Institute varsity girls soccer team didn’t get off to the greatest start this season, but last week the team strung along its first three wins of the season in succession.
The Griffs had been winless through its first six contests at 0-5-1 with just a 3-3 tie against Maryvale way back on Sept. 6.
All of a sudden last week lightning struck as the team earned its first win with a 5-3 win over Lakeshore Sept. 16. Just three days after securing its initial win of the season, the team made it two in-a-row with a 4-2 win at Iroquois Sept. 19.
The Griffs then took their game to a new level with a season-high eight goals on offense, combined with a defensive shutout for an 8-0 win against Cheektowaga Sept. 20 to round out the week.
The Griffs will host Maryvale Sept. 28 before a pair of road contests next week that starts at Hamburg Oct. 3 and continues Oct. 4 at Cheektowaga.
