SPRINGVILLE—Mason Goodridge added Erie County Interscholastic Conference Division III Player of the Year to his resume this year. The Springville-Griffith Institute basketball player was also a first team selection to the all-ECIC team.
Goodridge ranked fifth overall in Section VI scoring with 24.8 points-per-game, a full point more than his midseason total of 23.8. The total allowed him to be the highest scoring underclassman in Western New York, with only four seniors having a better points-per-game average.
Already acclaimed as one of the top hoopsters in WNY, ECIC also recognized Goodridge with its sportsmanship award.
The Griffins didn’t have the season they would have liked with just a 2-10 ECIC-III record, but the second of those two division wins – both against East Aurora – were by far the most exciting game of the season. Trailing by double-digits on the road, Goodridge was unstoppable. His late heroics not only sent the game to overtime, but he took the ball from one end of the court to the other for the game-winning score in overtime with 2.6 seconds to go.
Among some of the other more notable highlights of the season from Goodridge include tying a single game school record for points in early February against Frewsburg with 44.
In addition to being named Springville boys basketball’s most valuable player, Goodridge also captured the Springville Emerling Holiday Tournament MVP. The Griffins added a pair of wins during its annual tournament as the team finished with an overall record of 5-16.
Joining Goodridge on the All-ECIC First Team are: Greg Dolan, Williamsville South – POY Division-II; Juston Johnson, West Seneca West – POY Division-I; Chad Biersback, Depew – POY Division-IV and Zamari Mitchell West Seneca East.
In ECIC-III, in addition to Goodridge’s Player of the Year accolade the other top players from the first team include: Kyle Burley, Pioneer; Ray Blackwell, Maryvale; Jon Park, Lakeshore; Randy Bragg, Cheektowaga and Alekzander Bryant, Cheektowaga.
