SPRINGVILLE – The Springville JV Football Griffins fell to Fredonia-Westfield-Brocton by a 36-8 final on Thursday, Sept. 28. The game showcased the Griffs best offensive play of the season, as they rolled up 296 yards, more than doubling any previous output.
The Griffins turned the ball over five times with four of those coming deep in Badger territory.
The team amassed 215 yards on the ground and were led by AJ Slippy, who totaled 80 of those yards and the lone Griffins touchdown on the night. Alex Elkins had his best running effort of the season, with 71 yards and the two point conversion run after Slippy's score. Springville's offensive line had a solid game across the board despite not having Peter Priester available due to an injury suffered the previous week.
Both Slippy and Elkins were also the Griffs leading receivers on the game as Nick Emmick had his best day passing this year as he threw for 81 yards. Slippy caught 3 balls for 48 yards while Elkins hauled in two for 33 yards.
The final blow was delivered with the Griffins trailing 24-0 in the third quarter. The Griffs drove the ball for 10 minutes only to be denied on a fourth and goal attempt from inside the Badgers 1-yard line. The ensuing play would see the Badgers run the length of the field for a 99 yard touchdown sealing the Griffins fate.
A bright spot defensively was David Thompson who had 2 sacks and a forced fumble that was recovered by the Griffins for their only takeaway of the game.
Springville will play their home finale on Thursday, Oct. 5, against Pioneer at 6:30 p.m. before going on the road for their final two contests.
