SPRINGVILLE—The Springville-Griffith Institute JV girls volleyball team played host to Olmsted on Oct. 19 and came away with a 3-0 victory.
The girls were exceptional in all three games and played well as a team. Every girl who took the floor made important contributions, which included Jill Roggie, Vaidah Emerling, Rachel Stressinger, Melanie Barry, Meg Rehrauer, Marie Emerling, Marin Lehr, Sara Ehlers, Katelyn Mesch, Liv Schindler, Ivette Lewandowski and Ashley Blesy.
The girls traveled to Cheektowaga on Oct. 20 and completed an undefeated season.
For the first time all year the girls dropped game one by a score of 25-19. The Lady Griff’s looked like they were in trouble starting game two down 5-0 early. Everything changed after that, the team started passing the ball extremely well off of serve receive and the hitters, notably Lehr and Ehlers, were outstanding to lead the team to a big 25-19 game two win. Stressinger was great from the service line to bring home the win. It would be a mistake to not mention the unbelievable play by Vaidah Emerling. She was all over the court keeping the ball off the ground and setting up her hitters time and time again.
The girls completed the comeback by winning game three 25-16. Barry was excellent passing the ball from the back row and Lewandowski was outstanding with her hustle from the outside spot. The team couldn’t have won the match without the entire support from all members.
There were girls who didn’t play but were excellent teammates and were very supportive throughout the match. The girls finished the season 17-0.
