JV soccer team off to a good start

SPRINGVILLE—The Springville-Griffith Institute boys JV soccer team is off to a good start this season with a current record of 2-0-0. The team started the season on Friday, Aug. 24, hosting the Lake Shore Eagles. The Griffins scored in the 13th minute of the contest on a goal by newcomer Hunter Keem. Garon Holland scored two goals about seven minutes apart to give Springville a 3-0 lead at halftime.

The second half saw continued domination by the host team. Cameron Denny's blast made it 4-0 early in the second half. Denny scored again later in the half to end the scoring. Austin Boies didn’t have a lot of action, but was ready when called upon and recorded the shutout for the Griffins.

On Tuesday Aug. 28, Springville traveled for a contest with the Eden Raiders. It was a different story for Boies in goal this game. About one minute in the game he faced a breakaway, but was up to the challenge. Boies pitched another shutout, but this one was more difficult as Eden tested the Springville defense throughout the entire game.

Andrew Fisher scored in the first half off a feed from Zach Hughey. Springville held a 1-0 lead at halftime. In the second half, Holland made a beautiful pass to Grant Karb who blasted a shot past the Raiders goalkeeper to give the visiting Springville Griffins a 2-0 victory.
