Record falls in racewalk

HOUGHTON—A new racewalk record at Springville-Griffith Institute has been set, after Corrin Sacilowski finished the 1,500 meter race in 7:16.48. The first-place finish earned her a trip to the New York Public High School Athletic Association Indoor Track and Field Championships at Ocean Breeze Sports Complex on Staten Island March 3.

Sacilowski was able to lap her competition at the Section VI Indoor Track and Field State Qualifiers at Houghton College Feb. 23 ahead of her finish.

“I am very impressed with the dedication of [Sacilowski] to do the ‘extras’ in her training that were necessary for her to reach new personal records, as well as improving her own school record,” S-GI coach Chad Russell said.

“She committed to working out many mornings before school as well as regular practices after school, but she was also willing to run and train during the fall season by joining cross country to get in great shape before the indoor season began,” he continues. “It paid large dividends and allowed her to become a sectional champion this year and return to the state meet again.”

Three other members of the girls track team also competed at the Kerr-Pegula Field House including Jamie Dickinson, Elle Russell and Sonya Krezmien.

Dickinson set a personal record in the 600 meter dash with a time of 1:50.43 with a top-10 finish at ninth, then joined teammates Russell, Krezmien and Sacilowski in the 4x800 meter relay with a time of 11:27.86 for an 11th place finish in a field of 16.

Both Russell and Krezmien competed in the 3,000 run with the Russell securing a seventh-place finish with an 11:24.93 time and Krezmien finishing 12th with an 11:43.67 time.
