Records continue to fall for S-GI indoor track teams

HOUGHTON—The Springville-Griffith Institute indoor track team set five school records last weekend at the Houghton College Holiday Invite with 36 schools and over 1,100 athletes competing. In addition, 16 collective team members set new personal records between the boys and girls teams.

Three of the five school records came via the girls team. Payton Rowe finished in fourth place in the 55 hurdles as the new school record holder with a 9.41 time. Lizzy Miranda took eighth place with a school record time of 3:26 in the 1,000 meters. The 4 x 200 girls relay team set a school record with a 1:55.16 time from Chloe Chamberlain, Allison Lavanture, Evelyn Smith and Rowe.

The other two school records came from the boys team with Nick Abdo finishing third and setting a school record in the 600 meters with a time of 1:28.2, and Topher Elkins finishing in first place with a school record time of 37.05 in the 300.

Springville had four other top-five finishers beginning with Corrin Sacilowski, who took first place in the 1,500 race walk with over a 40 second advantage with a 7:43 time. Two other girls had impressive finishes that both came at the 1,500. Hannah Goetz took third place and qualified for sectionals with a 5:15.9 time, while Sonya Krezmien captured fifth place. For the boys, Abdo finished two spots behind Elkins in the 300 that was good enough for third place.

Ten boys team members set personal records that included: Andrew Delasandro (55 hurdles /10.03), Mike Huber (55 hurdles /11.62 ), Zach Peterman (3,200 / 11:04), Elkins (600 /132.7), Jarod Reese (600 / 1:35; 300 / 40.6), Sean Lux  (55 / 8.29), Cassius Fisher (55 / 8.38), Tim Blesy (55 / 9.2), Casey Waterman (1,600 / 5:43) and Payton Szudzik (long jump / 13 feet).

Six girls team members also set personal records that included: Jaime Dickinson (600/ 1:54.3), Lexi Moriarty (55 / 9.44), Smith (300 / 47.9), Sydney Wittmer (300 / 54.3), Mabel Robinson (300 / 49.6) and April Stoddard (shot put / 18.5 feet).

Indoor track members with season best performances include: Chamberlain (55 /7.91), Lavanture (55 / 8.29), Mary Kate Beyer (weight throw / 27 feet; shot put / 24 feet), Dickinson (pole vault / 6 feet) and Nate Myers (1,000 / 3:09).

Other individual results included: Brett Russell (1,600 / 5:10), Lavanture (long jump / 14.3 feet) and Meadow Wittman (long jump / 10.10 feet).

In other relay competition, the girls 4 x 800 finished with a time of 10:58, while the girls 4 x 400 finished at 5:39. The former time included runners: Elle Russell, Goetz, Miranda and Krezmien; while the latter time’s team was composed of Moriarty, Robinson, Elisabeth Sutton and Wittmer.

The boys relay teams competed at the 4 x 400 (4:44), 4 X 200 (2:06) and 4 x 800 (10:06). The 4 X 400 team comprised Henry Domst, Delasandro, Fisher and Szudzik. The 4 x 200 team was comprised of Domst, Huber, Lux and Fisher; while the 4 x 800 team competed with Russell, Peterman, Waterman and Elkins.

The S-GI indoor track teams travel to Buffalo State College this weekend Dec. 15 with competition slated for a 4:30 p.m. start.
