Local Civil War cavalry unit subject of presentation

A presentation on a Civil War cavalry unit from Western New York will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 28 at the Lucy Bensley Center in Springville.

Steve Teeft, director at Echoes Through Time Learning Center, will be leading the presentation, which will be on the ninth New York Cavalry, a local unit which fought alongside the Army of the Potomac in many of the war’s Eastern Theater battles.

Guests will also have the opportunity to see an exhibit at the Lucy Bensley Center, which will include a period Napoleon saddle, a uniform and various other cavalry items.

The Lucy Bensley Center is located at 23 N. Buffalo St. in Springville. The presentation is part of a monthly series hosted by Echoes Through Time Learning Center in conjunction with The Western New York Civil War Society.

Meetings are held the last Wednesday of each month. Admission is free and the public is welcome to attend. Donations will be accepted for the Civil War Preservation Trust. Light refreshments will be served and door prizes will be awarded.

For additional information, contact Tom Place, curator at Echoes Through Time, at 957-2740 or Jolene Hawkins at the Lucy Bensley Center at 592-0094.
