SPRINGVILLE— Since its inception, Springville Center for the Arts has continued to grow their annual Art Crawl and they’re currently seeking artwork submissions for the downtown event.
This year’s Art Crawl will be held on Saturday, May 6 from 5:30 - 8:30 p.m. The event places pieces of art in the businesses along Springville’s East Main Historic District. Visitors are given a map and are able to view the art displayed at each location – along with groups of musicians playing around town, kids’ sites, interactive activities and other events for all ages. SCA Executive Director Seth Wochensky said there will be new activities included in the Art Crawl this year. Art-making activities, a video art installation and fine crafts will all be new this year. There will also be a box city activity, where kids can build cities out of cardboard boxes.
“It’s interesting because people experience it in different ways so you tailor the evening to your tastes … Art Crawl is what you make of it,” Wochensky said. “We are constantly trying to add a little bit more every year … the formula has worked so we are not going to have a huge changeup.”
Wochensky said the reception over the years, from both the artists and the community, has always been good and he hopes they can continue to expand the event and get even more participation from all sides.
“The response from artists has generally been really positive … what’s really nice about it is that it gets art integrated into the community and people like how it is a pedestrian event,” he said. “It’s a really organic event … [SCA] coordinates it and sponsors the event, but it’s the participating businesses that make it what it is.”
To submit artwork, artists are asked to email images of their submissions and an entry form to SCAArtSubmissions@gmail.com. Submission forms can be found at crawl.springvillearts.org. The deadline to submit art is April 15, artists can submit five pieces in any medium. There is no restriction on size or age. If accepted by the jury, artists will be notified and work must be delivered for display by April 29.
