SPRINGVILLE—The Rev. Richard E. Blemaster, a native of Springville, will mark the 60th anniversary of his ordination into the holy ministry on Aug. 17. He was ordained in 1958 in Salem Lutheran Church of Springville by the late Rev. Daniel J. Knueppel. Salem congregation will celebrate this anniversary in its 10:30 a.m. worship service on Sunday, Aug. 26, followed by a potluck lunch in the social room. The community is welcome to attend.
The Rev. Blemaster, son of the late Carl and Leona Blemaster and brother of the late Robert Blemaster, graduated from Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, Mo. on June 6, 1958. His first parish was St. Paul Lutheran Church, New Melle, Mo. where he was installed on Aug. 31, 1958 and served for 14 months until he was called to Salem Lutheran Church, Buffalo, where he was installed on Nov. 1, 1959.
He served there for 40 years until his retirement in 1999. After assisting numerous area congregations during pastoral vacancies and vacations, he returned to full-time service in 2002 at St. John Lutheran Church in Youngstown and retired the second time 14 years later in 2016 at age 83.
He married Cheryl Korn Brill on July 15, 1967 in Salem Lutheran Church, Buffalo. They have three children Gloria Ward of California, Timothy Blemaster of Idaho and Kyria Perrotta of Rochester; four grandchildren and one great-grandson. Rev. and Mrs. Blemaster have resided in Akron since his 1999 retirement. They currently are members of Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Clarence.
